“Speculative Meta-Bodies offered a sensorial journey through a live art installation, reimagining mundane experiences within a new and dystopian framework. Three scenes, blending indoor and outdoor spaces, unfolded: Stuck in the office,A walk, and Night drive. Performers, acting robotic, cyclically repeated movements until prompted to switch stations, adapting their actions to each new environment. This piece prompted reflection on themes of individualism, the relentless pursuit of novelty in the digital era, social constructs, and the conflict between personal identity and professional roles.”

Speculative Metabodies: Object, art instalation  part of the exhibition OTHER  AI

(Berlin - DE)

            Art Direction/ Design : Serena Coelho,  SUPERCHI+JORDAN

In this captivating art piece, a juxtaposition emerges between the solidity of heavy machinery and the fluidity of organic life. Resembling a sturdy safe, the heavy hardware structure appears to struggle against the presence of an unpredictable and lively fluid. As if attempting to contain it, the mechanical body strains against the fluid escape, its joints and parts unable to fully restrain its movement. The tension between the rigid, industrial form and the dynamic, flow ing substance evokes a profound exploration of the relationship between man-made constructs and the forces of nature, inviting viewers to contemplate themes of control, technology fragility, and the inherent conflict between order and chaos.

Video piece, art installation, costume design and live performance

(Azores-PT)

Starring: Linda Lamignan,

Art Direction: Linda Lamignan, Itohan Emonvomwan, Serena Coelho

Fashion: Serena Coelho

“Linda Lamignan, Itohan Emonvomwan, and Serena Coelho collaborate for the art festival Walk & Talk in the Azores Islands, Portugal. Their installation, named after the performance, revolves around the Ananas, a symbol with cultural, political, and financial significance on the island. The exhibit evolves with new elements from both within and outside the Azores. Using video, 3D animations, fabric, sound, and objects, the work transcends typical Western labels for botanical items, focusing instead on the personal connections each artist has with the Ananas and its presence in everyday life on the Portuguese island. This exploration links the Ananas, the Azores, and the Atlantic Sea, bridging continents and cultures within the project.”

Art Direction/ Script/ Fashion: Serena Coelho

Production: Contextual Mumbling
“The piece explores the metaphorical journey of gender transition paralleled with the dynamic evolution of one’s self-perception, also influenced by social media. Just as individuals navigate the complexities of their identity over time, the interface of this platform transforms, shaping our experiences and sense of belonging both individually but also as a group. Moreover, the piece explores the fluidity of self-discovery through a narrative that blurs the lines between personal understanding and  growth, but also the ever-changing landscape of their digital presence, creating a thought-provoking experience at the intersection of identity, time, and technology.”

Location: K41 (Copenhagen - DK)

“In an innovative exploration of the digital versus the real, performers immerse themselves in a chaotic setting that serves as a symbol of a dystopian future. Amidst this turmoil, they grapple with the challenge of finding belonging and adapting to an ever-changing environment, all while seeking the comforting notion of home. This live performance unfolds simultaneously in a digitally created world, blurring the boundaries between reality and virtuality. As the performers navigate the chaotic landscape, their struggles and quest for familiarity are mirrored in the digital representation projected onto a screen. Through this dynamic interplay of live action and digital rendering, the piece invites contemplation on the intersection of technology, humanity, and the search for a sense of belonging in an increasingly complex world.”

Sculptures made for the BALENCIAGA museum.

 (Bilbao - ES)

                  Art Direction/ Fashion: Serena Coelho

When I started reading and studying Balenciaga’s work, I felt an immediate connection to his perspective on design and fashion. Even at that time, and for many years, Cristobal Balenciaga didn’t only make beautiful designs but he actually challenged the way people see fashion. He understood and transformed the technique. The Designer had an exceptional sensibility to the crafts, and always had the body and human being as the center of his work.
Therefore, for this project, I wanted to work with objects and garments, contrasting the idea of art, product design, and fashion. Bringing all of this together and in connection to the human body.
THE OBJECT (sculpture)
With “the object” I wanted to honor the most traditional techniques of garment making. I wish that the piece will resemble the memory of Balenciaga’s work. His passion for crafts. The imprint of the designer in fashion history.
The idea that something/someone was there, and even though it isn’t there anymore, it left its marks. Reflecting upon the impact of fashion in culture and is wear.
To achieve that effect, I decided to make fabric and clay sculptures that would after be vacuumed and transformed into translucent or metalic three-dimensional plates.

Drawing inspiration from the ethereal life beneath the ocean’s surface, this sustainable fashion collection serves as a poignant homage to the creatures of the sea, whose very existence is threatened by human consumption. Crafted with an unwavering commitment to environmental consciousness, each piece in this collection echoes the delicate balance of marine ecosystems, serving as a reminder of our responsibility to preserve and protect our oceans. From the graceful flow of sea anemone-inspired silhouettes to the intricate textures mirroring the resilience of coral reefs, every garment embodies a deep reverence for the natural world, urging us to tread lightly and embrace sustainable practices in the realm of fashion.
